Jalal Gharbi (1920-2005) who was a prolific North African, Tunisian, French painter of both Middle Eastern Arabic life (horses, horsemen, Moorish harem scenes, architecture etc) and American Western landscape scenes. The Tunisian-born artist, who spent his formative years between Paris, France and his native Tunisia, He moved to the USA in the 1950's. Gharbi studied at L'Ecole National des Arts et Metiers, Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, and The Art Students League in New York. with Jean Charlot and Robert Brackman.
Similar in style to Leonid Gechtoff and Pal Fried. He had exhibitions in Europe, North Africa, and the United States including the Diogene Gallery in Paris, Centre Culturel American in Tunisia, and the Carnegie Endowment Building in New York.
