Wartime Migration: He emigrated to Mandatory Palestine (now Israel) in 1937 before moving to Paris in 1939 to study at the École des Beaux-Arts.

He is occasionally referred to as an Israeli artist. Following the German occupation of France in 1940, he fled to London, where he attended the St. Martin's School of Art on a grant. Life in America: In 1947, Wending immigrated to New York, where he spent the remainder of his career.

Wending’s style is characterized by heavy impasto, bold color palettes, and a semi-abstract approach to traditional subjects. His work has been compared to Lee Krasner, Max Beckmann, Lyonel Feininger and George Grosz as well as Grace Hartigan and Perle Fine Key Themes: Still lifes (often floral), harbor scenes, and Mid-Century Modern abstract cityscapes. Exhibitions: His work has been widely exhibited in both England and the United States. Museum Collections: Notably, his work is included in the permanent collection of Yad Vashem in Israel.
