Born in Madrid, Romley’s artistic journey began at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she mastered classical techniques and developed her distinct, precise style. Early in her career, she worked as an illustrator for brands like Boucheron, Dior, and L’Oréal, before moving to New York City in the 1960s. There, her work expanded to include illustrations for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. In the 1970s, she founded The Winter Tree Graphics, where she began creating her signature hand-colored naif etchings.
Cuca Romley's art is deeply influenced by the places she has lived and loved, from New York City’s vibrant streets to the Hampton's peaceful landscapes, and the cultural richness of Barcelona, where she currently resides. Romley’s work captures the heart of small town America, such as Sag Harbor’s Main Street, East Hampton's, Maidstone Club, as well as the iconic landmarks of the Flatiron Building, Barcelona’s Paseo de Gracia and Rambla Catalunya with remarkable precision and affection. Her mastery of detail and color brings to life both the famous and lesser-known, blending her timeless charm with a contemporary perspective. Cuca Romley continues to paint, finding inspiration in the bustling and serene streets of her adopted city. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Europe, the United States, and Japan, securing her legacy as a celebrated artist. Romley's pieces remain cherished additions to private and public collections worldwide, a testament to her enduring ability to capture the timeless beauty and emotion of life through her art. Her work is of the same genre as Michel Delacroix, Ludwig Bemelmans Malcah Zeldis and Hilary Knight Cuca Romley was trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA), a distinguished National School of Fine Arts in Paris, France. Romley won several noted awards for her art in her native Spain, and in Paris, France. She worked as an artist and also had a career in advertising, illustration and interior design, in Spain, France and New York. As an artist, she has had solo and group exhibitions, first Paris, France, Monaco, Japan, Spain and the USA.
